Either you or your spouse must travel to the Dominican Republic. Arrival should be two days before the divorce hearing in the afternoon or evening. Our attorney in Santo Domingo will meet the traveling spouse at the hotel in the morning of the day before the hearing to obtain the originals of the documentation he (she) has brought down with him in order to go through the registration process. On the next day early in the morning, the traveling spouse and the attorney will go to court. The proceedings are usually over by noon and the traveling spouse may therefore take the flight back home that same afternoon. The divorce documentation (divorce decree, registration, translation, authentication at the appropriate Dominican authorities and at the U.S. Embassy) will take approximately ten to fifteen business days to get ready and will be sent to you by courier. |
